Dear members,
As you are all no doubt aware, the University has instituted a number of changes that affect our normal working practices. UCU has met with HR for some clarification around these changes. Our Regional Official has also contacted the University. The University’s principle position is that staff are looked after during the crisis, this includes financially, as well as providing support for remote working, teaching online, and protecting research. It is expected that there will be flexibility in adapting to the new working environment from both sides as we would all expect in a time of crisis. However, as we know from experience, the principles of engagement don’t always translate on the ground. If any member is experiencing difficulties please do not hesitate to get in touch with the committee for support.
This newsletter is necessarily long and will cover what UCU nationally is asking from employers and where our University stands, an update on Transformation, UCU’s position on lecture recording, a brief update on the recent Extraordinary UJCC, and information on two upcoming local campaigns. We have put the newsletter into a a Word document: Newsletter UCU changes to work practices Covid 19, with hyperlinks so that members can quickly go to specific items. We are cognizant of the current high levels of email traffic and information so I hope this method eases the burden somewhat.
